Safe Mode
Everything here is optional and can be changed at any time. Nothing you set is visible to a coach.
Quick Exit
The Quick Exit button sits at the top of every screen. It leaves RESTART straight away and sends this tab to the BBC Weather website, replacing RESTART in your back button.
Quick Exit cannot clear your browser history, and RESTART may still appear in it. See the device guidance below.
Privacy preferences
Records that you want the quietest possible experience. Today this shows a Safe Mode marker in the header; it does not yet change wording elsewhere.
Saved as a preference for when messages and emails are switched on. RESTART does not send you any notifications yet.
Saved as a preference. Screens still show your first name at the moment.
Off by default. RESTART only ever asks for a town or city.
We have written these settings honestly: the ones marked as preferences are stored against your account and will govern messages once contact is switched on. Please do not rely on them to hide RESTART from someone else today.
How should we contact you?
Device safety
- If someone else can access this device, use a browser's private window and sign out afterwards.
- Clear your browsing history after visiting — or use a library, work or a friend's device.
- Check whether your phone shares your location with a family plan or a shared account.
- Turn off message previews on your lock screen.
- Use a password nobody close to you could guess, and change it if you think they might know it.
Workplace safety checklist
- Ask who the workplace safeguarding or HR contact is on your first day.
- Decide in advance what you will say if a colleague asks personal questions.
- Check whether your employer can keep your address and contact details confidential.
- Note your shift end times and how you will get home safely after dark.
- Know how to report a concern — and that you can do it without giving a full explanation.
